About Us
Weymouth Hospital was founded in 1922 by local resident Dr. George Emerson. That 20-bed cottage hospital, renamed South Shore Hospital in 1945, was the foundation of South Shore Health: today, the largest independent health system in Southeastern Massachusetts. South Shore Health is a not-for-profit, charitable health system offering primary and specialty care; hospital care; home health and community care; emergency and urgent care; and preventative and wellness services.
South Shore Health provides care in more than 20 locations across the region and includes the following entities: South Shore Hospital, South Shore Medical Center, South Shore Visiting Nurse Association, Health Express, South Shore EMS, Friends of South Shore Health, and South Shore Health Foundation. We also work with academic medical centers in Boston to bring world-leading medical care to our community. Our partners include Boston Children’s Hospital, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, and Aspire Health Alliance.
