In March 2022 I happened to notice a lump on my neck while shaving. I didn’t think much of it until a couple weeks later when it hadn’t subsided. I showed it to my wife, and she suggested that I see my doctor just to air on the side of caution. The next day I saw my doctor and was having a Cat Scan of my neck that evening. By the time I pulled into my driveway from having my Cat Scan, there was a doctor calling me with a diagnosis that I never expected. The lump on my neck was a cancerous mass and it was tonsil cancer. My life changed forever in that short phone call. I was thrown into a world of more tests, scans, blood work, doctor’s appointments and biopsies. After meeting with a team of doctors we figured out the best course of action and planned out my treatment. After 33 radiation treatments, losing over 40 pounds, successfully avoiding a feeding tube and working full-time through it all I can say that I have been cancer free ever since. The road was not an easy, but I am grateful for all the wonderful care I was able to receive so close to home. The ease of being able to receive my radiation treatments and not have to have the added stress of a commute into Boston was invaluable.
