JUST THE FACTS

WHERE AND WHEN

South Shore Health System’s 16th annual Moonlight & Miracles Gala will be held on Friday, October 19, 2018 at the Starland Sportsplex & Fun Park in Hanover, the largest state-of-the-art indoor sports facility in New England.

WHO WILL BENEFIT

Philanthropic support is critical and plays an important role in allowing us to care for each patient and improve our critical care services. The Moonlight & Miracles Gala is South Shore Health System’s signature fundraising event. Funds raised will benefit our capital campaign, Mission Critical: The Campaign for Our 2nd Century, for the Critical Care Program.

WHAT HAPPENS AT THE EVENT

The Moonlight & Miracles Gala provides guests with an opportunity to support an important cause while enjoying an elegant evening. The Gala begins at 6:00 pm with a cocktail reception, where guests peruse the extensive silent auction and participate in the interactive wine pull. Following the reception, guests enjoy dinner, listen to a moving and heart-felt speaking program, participate in a spirited live auction, and dance the night away.

WHO ATTENDS

More than 550 guests attend including corporate sponsors, business, community and hospital leaders, grateful patients, caregivers and their guests.

WHY YOU SHOULD BE INVOLVED

South Shore Health System has developed an exceptional Critical Care Program, led by a superb team of board-certified intensivists, pulmonologists, surgeons and anesthesiologists. To mirror this clinical excellence, the system built the Richard and Joann Aubut Critical Care Unit (CCU) at South Shore Hospital. This state-of-the-art 24-bed ICU on the 5th floor of the Messina Building allows our highly-skilled team of caregivers to better meet the South Shore’s growing need for local access to advanced critical care services for patients with significant injuries, complex illnesses, or for those who are recovering from major surgery.

There is still work to be done as the project continues through the renovation of the existing CCU to become a 23-bed Intermediate Care Unit. This new unit will provide care for patients who are too ill for a general Medical/Surgical floor, yet do not need the intensive level of care found in the CCU. The Intermediate Care Unit provides flexibility in patient flow through their journey to health and allows our clinicians to care for their patients in the appropriate physical space.

The region’s population has grown from when the ICU was built in 1978 and patient complexity and acuity has increased dramatically since the hospital was designated as a Level II Trauma Center in 2008. Philanthropy is vital to this project as an updated Critical Care Program is the key component for Mission Critical and the health for our community.
